Fire Prevention Update:
January
The Glenburn Fire Dept. visited the 3rd graders this month and discussed the different equipment that firefighters use. Kids had a chance to check out some of the tools and the equipment that we use as well as learn how important it is to crawl low in smoke.
The students were visited by Lt. Strout, and firefighter Chris Lavoie,Dann Clark, and Travis Doody. The students had fun checking out the gear we wear and they had a chance to try on some of our equipment as well.
The kids were also given a homework assignment to update the maps of thier house as well as add where phones are located on the maps. The second homework assignment was to complete a tricky crossword puzzle as well as do some work investigating. Some simple hints....for those who are looking for a liquid that most people aren't aware of in your home that is flammable-most people don't realize CONTACT CEMENT is found in homes.
February we will be discussing the importance of practicing escape plans and discussing the importance of getting out of your house and staying out. We will also discuss some reminders about chimney fires and that CREOSOTE is a cause of many chimney fires..
The truck of the month is Unit 221-if you share this with Lt. Strout in February you could win a prize from the prize box!!
